Petty Creek Ranch is a faith-based behavioral modification and substance abuse recovery program for at-risk teenage boys, ages 12-19. Located in a remote log cabin in Alberton Montana, Petty Creek Ranch is a state-licensed Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS) treatment center that is owned and operated by a Catholic family who is committed to helping the youth overcome their struggles in order to regain control of their lives. We offer the young men who enter our program a chance to reflect and rebuild themselves in a therapeutic environment that is free of all social and sexual distractions, negative peer pressure, and drug or alcohol use.
Petty Creek Ranch is a very unique program for struggling teens that incorporates both evidenced-based treatment modalities and experiential education in a family-type of environment. Our team of highly-qualified direct care staff members work one-on-one with each child and collaborate with an extensive team of mental health professionals to create an individualized system of care designed for the unique needs of your son. By using the wilderness and forest systems of Montana to deliver both “Reality Therapy” and recreational opportunities for our clients, Petty Creek Ranch succeeds in connecting with each child on a very personal level that enables them to find a place and purpose in our positive peer culture and family setting.
Petty Creek Ranch believes that the key to creating lasting change lies in developing deep inter-personal relationships with our clients that posture them for success when reintegrating back into their communities at home. For this reason, we include parents and siblings in the treatment process to help deepen family relationships and to create a larger support network for the struggling teens who are in our care. In addition, Petty Creek Ranch has a proprietary discharge planning process that includes a home visit from our Program Director who will assess your home environment, conduct parent education courses, and connect with local support systems to design aftercare treatment options. We believe that what is currently lacking in long-term residential treatment for adolescents is proper discharge planning and transition protocols, which could ultimately undermine months of progress.
While your son is at Petty Creek Ranch, he will also receive academic and vocational/technical training, spiritual direction, and recovery coaching in addition to many other treatment interventions like equine-assisted therapy and individual counseling. We also use a 12-step model that will enable your son to attend local A.A. meetings and perform volunteer work in the Missoula community during the later stages of his stay. In addition, Petty Creek Ranch uses many “Adventure-Based Activities” such as hiking, fishing, and horseback riding to give our boys a once in a lifetime chance to experience an exciting yet wholesome Montana lifestyle while on the ranch.
Petty Creek Ranch can address many different emotional problems and maladaptive behaviors and is not just a program for teens who use drugs and alcohol: we also help correct oppositional/defiant behavior, anger issues, theft/dishonesty, depression, academic underachievement, poor social skills, attention-deficit disorder, sibling rivalry and bullying, divorce reaction, attachment issues among others.
